About Hamari Adhuri Kahani:

The film begins with a woman Vasudha (Vidya Balan) getting off the bus. An elderly man, Hari, sees a psychiatrist about his wife’s hallucinations.

The story jumps to the past where Vasudha is a single mother whose husband has been missing for five years. Committed to tradition, she has been waiting for him since he left.

His daughter-in-law takes him to his wife’s funeral. There he steals her ashes and leaves a diary to his son.

However, she later learns from the police that her husband Hari (Rajkummar Rao) killed five American journalists and is a member of a terrorist group. Worried about her son’s future, she accepts Aarav’s job offer.

Though Aarav learns about Vasudha’s past and that of her son, he falls in love with her. He tells her about his mother, who was a cabaret performer and a single mother, and how she fell in love with a man who tried to commit suicide because he could not save her from poverty.

Vasudha meets Aarav Ruparel (Emraan Hashmi) at one of his hotels, where she works as a flower arranger. Vasudha arrives to rescue her in a mock fire drill and he offers her a job at his hotel in Dubai, which she initially refuses.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani (which translates to “Our incomplete story”) is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt under the banners of Vishesh Films and Fox Star Studios. The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan and Rajkummar Rao.

Vasudha avoids her feelings and says that she belongs to someone else. On his request, she meets Aarav’s mother and eventually accepts Aarav’s love.

It is based on the love story of Bhatt’s parents, Nanabhai Bhatt, Shireen Mohammad Ali and his stepmother.
