About Coolie no 1 movie:

Coolie No 1 is a 1995 Indian Hindi language masala comedy film directed by David Dhawan and written by Rumi Jaffrey and Kader Khan. The film stars Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Harish Kumar, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Mahesh Anand, with music by Anand-Milind.

On the way home, Shadiram Gharjode meets Raju Coolie (Govinda), a coolie at the bus stop, proudly wearing his badge – “Coolie No. 1”.

The film was one of Kapoor’s first successful films. Govinda received the Star Screen Award Special Jury Award for his role as Artist of the Decade in this film.

Pandit Shadiram Gharjode (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) brings Malti Choudhary (Karisma Kapoor) the family of a prospective groom. But when his father, Chaudhary Hoshiar Chand (Kader Khan), learns that the family is not rich, he insults Gharjod. He vows to teach Hoshiyar Chand a lesson in his arrogance and pride.

Over the years, the film has become a classic in Hindi film history and is now considered a cult film. The film is a remake of the 1993 Tamil film Chinna Mappillai. In 2020, Dhawan remade the film of the same name with his sons Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan and Paresh Rawal.
