7 Reason why Prayer is Important or why Prayer is Important?
Emergency Nail, Ritual, Meaning of Life: Talking to God can be viewed in different ways. It is time to beg to be in touch with God.

The Shell Youth Study 2010 shows that the issue of prayer is not a major problem among youth today.

The study was conducted among youth, religious or non-religious, between the ages of 12 and 25. 30% of them said they never pray. 18% pray once or more than once a month.

Is prayer as a last resort the real meaning and purpose of talking to God?

The spokesman for the German Episcopal Conference, Matthias Kopp, has a different opinion and declared in 2009: “Prayer as a personal dialogue between God and man, where God becomes you for man, is imperative. »3

Which philosophy of prayer best describes reality? To whom should I pray? how and when? This article provides a preliminary answer from a biblical point of view.

Why pray

Biblical authors make it clear that God is omniscient, which raises the question of why one should pray to God. After all he knows everything, what do you tell him?

It becomes clear here that prayer is not just to inform God about his wants and needs. God already knows this (Matthew 6:8).

Above all, God wants us to develop our relationship with Him in prayer and put our trust in Him. God, who made us human, rejoices when we turn to Him.

And although God knows everything, prayer moves God to act. He who prays will experience how God works. Jesus himself makes a clear connection between asking and receiving through prayer (Luke 11:9-10).

And the Bible is full of examples of how God answers prayer. The fact that he does not answer many prayers is a topic covered separately in the article “When God is silent.”

Prayer – to whom?

For some, it seems natural to address their prayer to God. Others also seek contact with angels, spirits, the dead, and saints. The Bible clearly speaks of an earlier version.

Contact with the dead is also forbidden. The expectation and worship associated with prayer should be related to God only.

It still doesn’t answer the question. Because if you want to pray to God as a Christian, the question arises: Exactly to whom? The alternatives are the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Should you pray all three or just “in the name of Jesus”?

The Lord the Father’s prayer has a top priority in the Bible, whether in the Old or New Testament. Jesus also tells us to pray to the Father (Matthew 6:9). However, it appears that early Christians also prayed to Jesus.

They were known to call upon the name of Jesus (eg Acts 9:21; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 2 Timothy 2:22). Stephen, the first Christian martyr, also addresses his prayer to Jesus (Acts 7:59-60).

Although no prayer to the Holy Spirit is recorded in the New Testament, nothing seems to contradict it. Because the Holy Spirit, like the Father and the Son, is all God.

Those who claim that one cannot speak to the Holy Spirit are ultimately claiming that one cannot have any contact or relationship with Him.

It doesn’t feel wrong to look to the Holy Spirit either – especially when it comes to the areas in which he is proficient.

Thus, in choosing the person to be approached in prayer, one or the other aspect of the relationship with God may be emphasized, e.g. B.

Childhood (Father), salvation (Jesus), discipleship (Holy Spirit), etc. Finally, Christians pray in the Holy Spirit. Through him there is a bond with Jesus and the Father.

Again, praying in the name of Jesus has a special meaning.

The basis for this is John 14:14: “Whatever you ask in my name, I will do so that the Father may be glorified through the Son. So whatever you ask in my name, I will do.

But this phrase means much more than just adding the words “in the name of Jesus” to every prayer. It means an attitude of the heart centered on Jesus Himself. Prayer must be in the spirit and authority of Jesus.

Highlighted Prayer
Jesus gives concrete advice on the content of prayer with “our Father.” The Lord’s Prayer reveals what the relationship between man and God can look like, what content and attitude are important for prayer to God.

  • mml! May your name be holy.
  • thy kingdom come. Your wish will be fulfilled on earth as it is in heaven.
  • Give us our daily bread today.
  • And forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors.
  • And do not tempt us, but deliver us from evil.
  • To you is the kingdom and power and glory forever. so be it.”
  • (Matthew 6:9-13)

Community

The greeting in this prayer expresses a deep trust and connection with God.

This is what God wants. Anyone who addresses God as father and sees himself as his child knows how safe and secure he is with God and He takes care of everything. It expresses that one expects help, love and care from God.

On the other hand, if you don’t trust God, you can’t expect much from Him (James 1:6-8).

The address “Our Father” also expresses the awareness that one is connected to other Christians through God. They are like brothers and sisters in faith.

Thus, at the very beginning of prayer, the oneness that lives in God is expressed to Christians. This association is a central aspect of the relationship with God.

Inner meditation in prayer

The request that follows the address also expresses an inner view: God’s name must be respected. The worshiper expresses proper devotion to the Lord.

Elsewhere, Bible writers emphasize that we are created to display the greatness and glory of God (Ephesians 1:12). Here and now, in this world.

The next request of the Lord’s Prayer occurs systematically: God should rule this world, bring peace and establish His justice.

His kingdom has to come. His wish is to be fulfilled on this earth. It involves doing what pleases God and helping others to align themselves with God.

Brilliant

The request for “daily bread” includes everything that is needed for daily living. This includes the power for the day and to do God’s will. As well as the patience to endure injustice and suffering in this world.

The request includes any concerns, questions and problems that affect you personally. God hears, this is already evident from the address of God as father.

We humans are incredibly valuable to him. As a father, he is interested in what inspires his children. No request is too small or too insignificant for him.

Peace in heart

Following a request for daily bread is a request for God’s forgiveness for things that have gone wrong. Apart from guilt, people are also troubled by bitterness, hatred and reconciliation.

To get this out of the way, God wants to give His strength and love to all. God’s righteous world on earth also includes his desire to forgive other people: “as we forgive our debtors.

” God Himself will see that God creates justice for every human being. You don’t need to bring justice by vengeance yourself – which is ultimately a very liberating prospect.

Look forward to the future

The Lord’s Prayer looks to the future. Not giving in to temptation is asking God not to lead someone into situations that they cannot cope with.

God is not to bear such a heavy burden, either externally or internally, that man cannot bear. Instead, God should lead people in such a way that they can be loyal to him.

This last request of the Lord’s Prayer also expresses the belief that one day God will remove all evil. Thus she joins in pleading for the coming of the kingdom of God from the very beginning.

The prayer ends with the affirmation of “Amen”. It means “so be it,” expressing the prayer’s belief and approval that God will provide for the fulfillment of the prayer.

Keep it simple

Although Jesus shows a good internal orientation and attitude in prayer to the Lord, prayer is primarily simple communication with God: without coercion and personally.

You can kneel, stand or lie down, even if he is in bed. Of course, the outer attitude can also be a manifestation of the inner attitude. That’s why some people stand reverently at the time of worship.

Others sit to concentrate better. Still others kneel or lie down to express their devotion to God, or raise their hands in a gesture of openness and receptivity.

So the outward appearance can be very different and must match what inspires me at the moment. Nevertheless, prayer should always be personal, direct communication with God.

Prayer is an expression of connection with God. I can tell her what’s important to me, just honestly and specifically. In My Own Words.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, R. Short or long, loud or silent. alone or with others.

I have a date – with god
Like any relationship, it’s important to consciously find time to spend time alone with God. Scheduled times can help make prayer a habit.

In addition to peace which is important for aligning with God, time and space can also play a role. Therefore, everyone should ask themselves when and where they can best focus on God.

This can be in church, in nature or on the couch at home. We can also learn to meditate on God in everyday life: when children are at school, in the morning before the start of the day, or in the quiet hours of the evening.

How should I structure my prayer? as a prayer

In the so-called “Prayer Book of the Bible”, psalms alone, there are several elements of prayer: praise, thanksgiving, petition, lamentation, forgiveness and request for attention.

With these different ways of talking to God, prayer becomes multifaceted. In the prayer of meditation, for example, silence, reflection, listening to God dominate. One psalm says something like this:

“Shut up and know that I am God. I will be the highest among the Gentiles, and the highest on earth” (Psalm 46:11).

Even these different possibilities can still be met in different ways.

They have the advantage that their content and form help them to talk to God in ways that they themselves could not, especially when things are particularly good or bad.

In addition, pre-prepared prayers can very well be read in the community. Biblical hymns and the Lord’s Prayer are also popular.

However, self-spoken prayers, which are mostly freely spoken, have the advantage of being more personal and can often more accurately reflect our own feelings and concerns.

This spontaneous prayer before an important meeting could be a simple and concrete example: “Dear Father, I’ve been preparing for this meeting all week. It’s very important.

Please give me the flexibility and attention it takes to make sure it’s there. Thanks for helping that important point goes well and we can move forward together. Amen.”

It’s usually good to find a healthy mix.

As it suits you. It may look different on different occasions and times.

Various elements and forms of prayer are also possible in the community. Praying together is especially important and comes with special promises from God in the Bible.

He completes his prayer life. It is not without reason that Jesus as “us” gave the Lord’s Prayer to Christians.

Others also open up new insights into prayer situations. Praying together can bring encouragement, exchange, and a deeper human fraternity. Having a personal prayer partner that you meet regularly can also be very helpful.

In ordinary prayer, I also receive vital impulses to get to know God better and better. I feel how other people experience God.

Why not here and now with the help of our Prayer Experiments course?

When everyone brings their individual aspects into prayer there is a bigger and complete picture of God.

This is far from saying everything about prayer, there are countless advice and relevant biblical texts. The important thing is to start.

God is only a prayer away. Or you can ask someone to pray for you first. Every Wednesday evening the radio presenters of ERF Pop pray for your concerns in the program “La Prieur”.
