Mother’s Day is a week away (you’re welcome for the reminder) and, as it falls the weekend of my husband’s birthday, we will be spending it in lovely Whitby! We don’t spend a lot on Mother/Father’s Day, I’d be more than happy with a picture drawn by my son and a nice card but, on the basis that I like to blog, I thought I’d put a little list together of things that would make me smile on Mother’s Day...you never know, my husband might actually read it and produce the goods! Ha ha!
I asked for a Disney mug for Christmas after I started drinking tea a lot more in my pregnancy and was craving a huge bucket of a mug to drink it out of. My husband delivered in the form of a Lion King mug. The tea drinking has continued since having our little Spud and I decided I wanted to collect Disney mugs. I love a good mug, don’t you? I get really disappointed if its a cup and saucer in a cafe/restaurant and not a sturdy mug. Given that Little Mermaid is my favourite Disney film of all time, it seems apt that my next mug would be this one. Yes, it’s a little pricey but it’s soon pretty and I love the clever design of it. I think my cup of Yorkshire Tea would taste gorgeous out of this.
If you’ve read any of my other posts, you may know that I began Face Painting back in August 2017. I’m yet to do any professional jobs as I wanted to have Spud and do some more practicing but the plan for this year is to get up and running with a little business. On the advice of the lovely Donna at Yorkshire Face Paints, I bought a Grimas MS14 brush and it has transformed my roses…
The picture on the left is on Donna’s Beginner’s Course when I first started, the right is where I’m currently at with my awesome new brush. I used DFX Stargazer on these but I would like to try Strong Rose as I think the contrasting shades will add depth to the rose. Elsa’s Magic is like gold dust because it’s perfect for those Frozen designs that all the little girls, and some boys, love so both one strokes will be great additions to my kit.
I love receiving flowers in general, a simple bunch of lilies from the local supermarket are always nice to have on the table but there is something extra specialabout receiving flowers from a florist. They are so much more luxurious and, at Amaryllis, they are longlasting and good quality. Cleverly, my son and his baby sister managed to order me some for Valentine’s Day this year (right) and they lasted three weeks!
My favourite flowers have always been lilies but actually, in the last few years, I’ve decided I don’t have a favourite. It’s all about the colours, flowers and arrangement so if I was treated to some flowers for Mother’s Day. I’d be easily pleased because Amaryllis always deliver on these three things. Contemporary or traditional, bright colours or muted tones, roses, lilies or tulips, they would definitely put a smile on my face and I would recommend the ‘Florists Choice’ so that they can be creative and come up with something unique!
Oh how I love Pyjamas, even if I have to check every time I spell the word! It’s become a running joke between me and the hubby that, if we’re out of the house for a long time, I say “I’ve been away from my Pyjamas for too long.”. I don’t have jogging bottoms or anything like that so my loungewear are my PJs. If I’m in the house, 9 times out of 10, I’m in them. If I’m spending the day indoors I will even shower and then put clean ones on.
My sister got my some lovely pyjamas from Debenhams for Christmas with a jumper top. I’ve never thought to have jumper before as I get warm but actually, it’s so comfy and they are really good quality too! When I spied these on the Debenhams website, I really liked them. I like to go a size bigger with PJs so they are baggy and more comfortable, if not slightly unflattering. Because I’m breastfeeding Spud, I wear a feeding vest a lot too so I could wear one under the jumper and then just take it off to sleep. To be honest, Primark and George or Boux Avenue and Debenhams, I don’t really care. Pyjamas always put a smile on my face…and slippers!
My husband bought me a Pandora bracelet with a charm on that says “First my mother, forever my friend” after our son was born for my first Mother’s Day. It was incredibly thoughtful and means a lot to me. The other charm is theatre masks which links to my drama teacher role and love for musicals. It’s the rope style bracelet so I don’t want to over load it with charms, just a couple that symbolise me. I’d love to have another charm that symbolises our daughter and Pandora have some lovely ones but, as I don’t wear a lot of jewellery, I’m pretty picky. I only really wear my wedding rings regularly. I’d like to wear my bracelet regularly but I’m forever forgetting to put it on, especially after I’ve been in the shower. Although I don’t like to call our daughter a princess (I’d rather her be a Queen) I LOVE this charm and I’m sure it could be a queen as well as a princess! I don’t like the dangly ones, or the ones with colour on so it doesn’t leave a lot of other choices really. This one is cute and will go perfectly with the other two.
A real mixture of ideas isn’t there? It might inspire a Dad, son or daughter for their Mum or if I’m lucky it might inspire my husband! (But I don’t think he reads my posts anymore!)
