Catching Up!

Vantage Points

Ciao readers!

It’s been a while since we had a catch up isn’t it? Well grab a cuppa and take a seat and I’ll tell you what I’ve been up to! Who am I kidding? Chances are you’re a parent and the likelihood of a hot cup of tea/coffee and you seating down for a bit of peace is slim…maybe you’ll grab a quick five minutes somewhere in the day.

This post is a little different in style as, due to my blog being quiet recently, I felt the need to update. I try to keep my blog away from the diary style, not because there’s anything wrong with it, I just find that I tend to babble on with no real purpose!

My last two posts, July’s Featured Blogger (hilarious, you must read if you haven’t!) and Dreams of a Shopaholic, don’t focus on Educating Roversi- the mummy, which is the overall theme within the blog, and I feel a little like it would be nice to share what I’ve been up to recently. In addition, seen as today is the last day of the school year, I thought I’d have a think about Summer 2016 too.

So what have the Roversi’s been up to in the last month or so? Here are the highlights!

Mini R’s second birthday (and my 32nd) was lots of fun…it began the weekend before with a trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and we picked the best day weather wise! It was gloriously sunny all day and we had a lovely day.

His party, held at Cloud 9 in Ossett, resulted in him being a hot, sweaty mess from running about, playing and bouncing on the bouncy castle so I was suitably satisfied that he’d enjoyed himself. His wonderful Gruffalo cake was made by a friend of mine and tasted as good as it looked!

On our actual birthday we invited friends and family around for a celebration (and a good buffet!) and it was lovely to see our boy enjoying himself once more. It was clear his favourite part of his birthday involved everyone singing “Happy Birthday” to him, as he talked about that and “blow candles out” over and over until my ears bled.

Towards the end of June we had L’s very first parents evening at nursery. As a teacher myself, it was very strange to be on the other side of the table! The reports were good, showing that he was within the age range, if not above, in all areas of the EYFS. More importantly, he was happy, settled, polite and having fun when he was there. He only attends the nursery two days a week, and I have recently thought about moving him to Pre-School but I’m going to wait until next September (2017) as he loves it there and the staff seem to really like him.

Weight loss…

After indulging in lots of naughty food during the birthday celebrations, I decided I needed to do something drastic before our holiday so I contacted my friend Nicola who is a Cambridge Weight Plan consultant. She was unbelievably supportive and, although it was tough, I lost 11b in my first week, and a further 2lb the following week. Last week, and this week, I have struggled a little more (I maintained in my third week but still lost another inch off my waist and hips, making a total of 3 inches off my hips and 3 inches of my hips.) I feel so much better and don’t want to go backwards, luckily Nicola is there to support me and motivate me. I’m so glad I’ll be going on my holidays a little slimmer and I’m looking forward to coming back, getting rid of the holiday weight, and aiming for my target weight.

Two weeks difference on CWP – 13lb loss along with inches.

Friends and family…

The last month has been filled with both – Sunday dinner with Janma and Johndad to welcome them home from their holidays (I was lost without them!), Sunday dinner with two of my best friends and their boys which was a new thing for us and very enjoyable, a child free shopping day with my life partner as a late birthday treat and a couple of nights out! All in all, I can’t complain. It’s been busy but fun.

Looking forward…

As I said at the beginning of the post, today is the final day of the 2015-16 school year. I’ve completed a full year since my maternity leave! It’s been a year of change, many changes within the school, and within the Performing Arts department in which I work. I will be sad tomorrow as I say goodbye to a much loved colleague, however she’s also one of my closest friends so it’s not really goodbye, apart from in a teaching format!

On Thursday 28th July, we’ll be jetting off to Port Douglas in Australia for two weeks with my friend and her family followed by four days in Sydney with my brother and nephew who live in New Zealand. Hoping to see other friends while I’m there too. Packing is a minefield! The spare bedroom is literally filled with suitcases and clothes as “Operation Oz” has begun. I feel like I’m spending the majority of my days at the shops buying random things that I keep thinking we need. Mini R’s grufflo Trunki is packed with goodies and the iPad is loaded with programmes and films, thanks to a very lovely friend. I’m still feeling anxious about the flights but, what will be will be, and we will manage I’m sure. One things for sure, it’ll be worth it!

The Blog…

Due to our Australia trip, the blog will be quiet for the three weeks that we are away. I’ll try and remember to tweet a picture or two while we’re there however I’m looking forward to switching off and spending time with my family. One thing you can look forward to is a post or two about our travels when we return!

For now, I’ll leave you with some of my favourite pictures of the last few weeks…
