May’s Featured Blogger: Claire from Life, Love and Dirty Dishes

Firstly, I’d just like to say thank you for all the positive responses regarding this feature on Educating Roversi. Everyone seems to like getting to know other bloggers more and I’m happy it allows me to connect with more people through my blog.

This month I’m really pleased to have Claire from Life, Love and Dirty Dishes. In her own words, Claire says:

I’m in my mid thirties (37 still counts as mid, right?). My claim to fame is that I once spoke to Phillip Schofield on a Going Live phone in.  I know, awesome. I live with three boys; The Husband, The Big One (6) who never ever stops talking, and The Little One (2) who never ever stands still. We live in a Lego house.  We don’t really, but we have so much of the stuff I could probably build one.

It’s fair to say that I’m jealous of her connection with “our Phil”. I love him and wish he would adopt me as his daughter! 🙂

She describes her blog as:

The amusing side of parenting, and life with small people.  If you’ve ever been wedged in the rollers at soft play, or forgotten the change bag the day your kid projectiles you, my friend, are not alone.  Like anything in life, this blog is best enjoyed with tea and chocolate.

Life, Love and Dirty Dishes is one of the first blogs I started reading when I began blogging and it’s an honour to have someone who has been regularly published on Huff Post, Scary Mommy, Netmums, Mumsnet, BritMums and Tots100, as well as being in the top 6% of parenting bloggers on Tots100! One of her pieces on Huffpost Was number 12 in their most read posts of 2015.

Claire also hosts a linky ‘Friday Frolics‘ and a hilarious series called ‘Rookie Mistakes‘.  I really love her post Don’t Buy Her Flowers. When I read the title I thought I would disagree as I love flowers but then I found myself agreeing with her points! Especially the bit about hay fever and having to arrange them – I get my mum to do that for me when she pops round! Ha ha! Claire is a fellow stationary geek like me, so we’d actually both prefer something from Paperchase! 🙂

So here is the interview with Claire:

1) Tell me a little more about your family…

My husband and I have been together since I was 14.  He was in the year above me at school.  I fancied him and got my best mate to tell him and the rest as they say is history!  We’ve been married for 10 years.  We have two amazing and very noisy boys.  My eldest Harry is 6 and is a chatterbox.  He never stops talking.  Every single thought in his head is said out loud.  My youngest, Oliver has just turned two.  He’s our little dare devil.  Anything and everything is to be climbed on and jumped off.  He’s the reason I have upped my purchases of hair dye.

2) What are the main themes of your blog?

I write mainly lighthearted posts about parenting.  I sometimes get a bit soppy and I have also been know to get a bit serious.  But mainly I like to tell the truth about parenting.  The highs and the lows.  I run a weekly linky called #FridayFrolics for funny posts and a guest blogging series called Rookie Mistakes which is all about parenting fails.

3) Why did you begin your blog?

It wasn’t really planned.  I have always loved writing but never really found a creative outlet for it.  After Oliver was born I started reading blogs, mainly because there was no time to read books.  I had an idea for a post I could write, so on a whim I created a word press account and I did it.  I had no thoughts further than that first blog post and I didn’t know the first thing about blogging.  But I enjoyed writing, so I kept going!  I like to think I know a bot more about blogging now!

4) What’s your favourite thing about blogging?

I think it’s probably the responses to a post, whether it’s peoples comments or someone sharing your post, it’s amazing when something you have written causes a reaction and people can relate to it.

5) What’s your favourite way to spend a Bank Holiday weekend?

It would mainly involve food, wine, movies and shopping.  I think the extra day is a great way to strike a balance between family time, time with my husband, and a bit of me time.  It’s not often you get to do all three in one weekend.

6) Five months into the year, did you set any new years resolutions and have you kept to them?

No.  I have the worst will power in the world, so I don’t bother with them.  I always try to have the best intentions, but not resolutions.

7) What’s the story behind your children’s names?

Harry was named after my Grampy who passed away when I was a child.  His middle name is the same as my husband’s middle name.  Oliver was the only other boys name we liked!  We did also like Sam, but I used to have a dog called Sam.  I think second time round it’s harder because you know so many more kids.  Oliver’s middle name is my Granddad’s name.

8) What’s your guilty pleasure?

What or who?!  What would probably be watching neighbours.  I don’t watch any other soap, but I love neighbours!  Who? James Corden.  I love him.

9) Snog, Marry, Avoid – Simon Cowell, Alan Sugar and Piers Morgan. Give you reasons.

Snog Alan Sugar, because it’s a one off and I could forget about it.  Hopefully!  Marry Simon Cowell, for his fame and fortune of course.  Avoid piers Morgan, because he’s Piers Morgan, what other reason do you need?

10) What’s your favourite city and why?

New York.  I absoultely love the buzz.  There’s so much to do and the people are really friendly.  A very close second would be Florence.

Big thanks to Claire for taking part in this, it’s so lovely to find out more about you and share the blogging love!

  4. Great interview, they can be tricky but I feel it was well done. 🙂 Appreciated hearing how other mom’s got started in blogging. I, too, have a chatterbox where everything is said out loud and a daredevil. My daredevil is a girl and is the reason I too invest in hair dye. #KCACOLS

  6. Aww Claire it was lovely to read a bit more about you (yes I am nosey) – I too love your blog and look for it often on a linky! So impressed with where you’ve published – I’ve seen you over at HuffPost – brilliant reads every time – I love the way that your posts are real – sometimes funny, sometimes soppy and sometimes serious – because that’s life – as much as I like to be funny – life really isn’t that funny all the time! #KCACOL
