Hello readers! Can you believe it’s March already? Finally it’s getting sunnier, if not a little chilly, and the nights are getting slightly lighter – i’ve even moved my lamp timer back by an hour! Exciting stuff, I know! 😉
This months Featured Blogger is Charlene. She is a support worker and blogs over at The Moderate Mum. She lives in Brighton with her husband Graham and their son Roscoe. In 2016 Charlene is embarking on Mission Acceptance, a year of learning to live with herself. If you would like to follow her mission or join in with the weekly challenges please sign up for updates here.
Her blog is honest, refreshing, positive and that’s why I like it! I’m very jealous that she lives by the sea as that is a dream of mine, but i’m too much of a homebody to do it so I just visit the seaside a lot in the summer! Impressively, Charlene has been featured on HuffPost Lifestyle & Folks Magazine and is super friendly on Twitter and Facebook so why not pay her a visit?!
1) Tell me a little more about your family…
I live in Brighton with my husband Graham and two year old son Roscoe. My husband runs a productivity training business and my son creates chaos.
2) What are the main themes of your blog?
Parenting, becoming comfortable with the person you are, loving life even when life isn’t loving you.
3) Why did you begin your blog?
About a year ago, but way before that in my head. For anyone with a blog in their head, please start publishing.
4) What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
The community. I think spiritually I’m an extrovert but my body often won’t cooperate. Being able to join the party whilst I’m in my pyjamas is all kinds of awesome. I’ve also always believed myself to be an outsider; in the blogging community I really feel like everyone’s welcome.
5) What item can you not live without and why?
Deodrant. It’s a family trait to start sweating bucketloads the second we feel anxious or uncomfortable. After a decade of wearing only black clothing I discovered Mitchum roll on and if they ever discontinue it, I will cry.
6) What would your perfect Mother’s Day include?
Waking up whenever I please, going to a spa with a friend, drinking wine, eating good food, maybe a cheeky massage. Returning home to find someone has already put my son to bed, giving him a kiss on the head as he sleeps.
7) How do you celebrate Easter in your family?
We don’t (whoops naughty March featured blogger). My husband is a humanist and my son is too your to understand what;s going on and doesn’t need any more sugar in his life. My mum was raised Christian and growing up we weren’t alllowed to eat meat on Good Friday so she sometimes rings me to check I haven’t and occassionally I remember. Easter makes me think about family because it’s one of the few times everyone’s got free time. This year I’m hoping to go to brunch with all my cousins, I’d love that to become a tradition.
8) Have you given anything up for lent?
No, I love asking people what they’ve given u though – it’s fascinating, but too close to New Year for my liking. If I were to have given anything up it would have been sugar. So many of my friends has gone sugar free and feel amazing but I’ve been far to scared to try. What is life without Jelly Tots?
9) What is your favourite chocolate and why?
Fudge bars. They’re small and cheap so I don’t feel too guilty about having them, they’re also lovely for dipping in tea. When I started dating my husband I learned that he also loves them so I usually buy them one too, that’s about as close to romance as I get.
10) Tell us one random fact about yourself.
I can’t drive. It’s not that random but I feel like publicly declaring it might help me confront the issue. I don’t mean I haven’t taken lessons, I mean I can’t do it – it feels like rubbing my stomach and patting my head at the same time (I can’t do that either.)
Thanks so much to Charlene for taking the time to be my Featured Blogger, again, pay her a visit at Moderate Mum, Facebook or Twitter.
