Sometimes you meet someone and you just click, don’t you? One of those people that you feel like you’ve known forever when it’s only been a couple of years. Some who just ‘gets’ you.
Well I have a person like this: she’s my person, my life partner, my sounding board, my counsellor and my shoulder to cry on.
I actually thought writing this post would be easy, just like I did when I began writing Sisters From Other Misters, however once again there is almost too much to say and I’m struggling to focus it all.
Let’s start with the term ‘life partner’ which was adopted a couple of years ago. Due to my husband working evenings as well as Friday and Saturday nights, KC became a stand in anytime there was a function – be it family or friends – she was my plus one. If you have read my post about my three childhood best friends, you’ll know I already have a wife, and she is irreplaceable, so KC became my life partner. Being slightly younger than me, she was in a slightly different stage in the life, had a little more time on her hands than my other friends that had their husbands, boyfriends and children to consider, so we just kind of ‘fell’ together.
I love her because she knows me so well despite only being part of my life for the last 6 years. She knows exactly how to handle me when I’m excited, sad, emotional, angry or confused. She’s thoughtful and has a great attention to detail when it comes to her friends. She’s unbelievably loyal but will be totally honest at all times, so if I’m being a d*ck she says so! We’ve actually only ever had one argument, two years ago on the way to a meal with our fellas, I can’t fully remember what it was about now but it was over within ten minutes and we were fine again – ha ha!
We are both grannies at heart and that makes our friendship work – we love a bit of bingo or quiet nights in with a chinese and a good film plus early night. On nights out we have the same drinking style, not hammering it and stopping drinking/drinking water if we feel too drunk….although she’s a little better at that than me! Gosh, we sound dull don’t we? We’re really not! Ha ha!
For my 30th birthday (but a month early as I was due with Mini R two weeks after my birthday), she took me to the Harry Potter studios where we stayed over in a hotel and had an awesome day discovering everything Potter – another love we share.
Valentine’s day just gone, we had a lovely day out with Mini R! I don’t really care for Valentine’s day as someone who is awkward with romance so me, KC and the small one had a day out. We even added a lock to a gate in Roundhay park to mark the occasion (KC’s idea. I don’t do sloppy sh*t like that!).
The thing I like most about our friendship is that it is effortless. There is no awkwardness, no drama, no craziness. Nothing is ever an issue between us. We’re on the same level in terms of the things we like to do and sometimes, to say we’re so different in so many ways, we are so alike too.
So there you go, another special person I have in my life. As I write this blog and about my husband, mum, sisters and brother, besties and life partner I realise just how lucky I am to have these amazing people in my life.
Note: she nagged me the other day about when i was going to publish this post so, here you KC, hope you like it. xx
